The steamy days of summer....steamier Summer Blues is on the way!

Dear Blues family,

Ahh, the steamy days of summer are beginning to set in.

However, the Blues fans will soon know what ‘steamy’ really means…sizzling, rocking, swinging, jumping, heartfelt blues are on the way. Yes, steamy! Yes, exhilarating and refreshing!

Tonight, we are headed to Jergel’s to see the newest Chicago sensation, Toronzo Cannon.

Tomorrow, July 8….the Blues Society of Western PA will be steaming into Washington, PA to support Blues Friday at the Washington Rebellion fest. Jimmy Adler, Charlie Barath and Phil Wiggens and the Chesapeake Sheiks.

Kilborn Alley will be steaming into town on Monday, July 11 at Moondog’s. Kilborn Alley headlined the BSWPA’s FIRST New Year’s Eve party…sold out crowd, great music, frenzied crowd……what fun!

Jeff Jensen will return to Moondog’s with his zest filled shoe on Thursday, July 14.

Dennis Gruenling and Doug Deming with the Jeweltones will hit the burg, Moondog’s, on Friday, July 22. We will be celebrating Dennis’s and Moondog’s birthday. Be prepared to be whipped into a frenzy.

Jason Ricci will tearing it up with his killer harp on Friday, July 29 at Moondog’s.

The Heritage Fest in Wheeling, WV will be held on August 12, 13 and 14. Stop by the BSWPA’s booth.

That calendar is loaded with blues! Come out and join the fun!

Looking ahead….

The Blues and BBQ picnic is heading our way on Saturday, September 17. Yes, Blues, Blues and more Blues with BBQ being made available. The featured artists: Stevee Wellons Band, BluSoul, Bo Hog Brothers, Rhythm Hawks and in from the city….Bill Toms. What a great lineup. The Blues will be sizzling into the early autumn.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase. A play area, hiking trails and a small lake for fishing will be available to those attend. This is a handicapped accessible event. FREE

October 2 at Jergel’s in Warrendale, PA…..New on the agenda…..

Fighting Back…the Blues celebrates life and courage.

This project was an idea that Tina Daniels (Hi Road Easy) proposed….having those musicians who have fought cancer and survived to host a concert to celebrate life and to encourage those that have suffered or are suffering. The proceeds that day will benefit “Our Clubhouse”, a Western PA dedicated nonprofit, that provides support and assistance for cancer patients and their families during and after treatment throughout Western PA.

Featured artists: Hi Road Easy with Tina Daniels, Sweaty Betty, Miss Freddye’s Band, Dave Iglar Band,

Jill West and Blues Attack. Headliner and organizer of Blues For a Cure….Sean Carney, International Blues Challenge winner and International Guitarist of the year. Why Sean? First, his music is over the top. Second, his mother was challenged by breast cancer (his reason for organizing many events to benefit those during their suffering).

Each act that day has had members who have faced the big C. They are sharing their time and talent to provide for others and to encourage. They have “walked the walk” and want to let others know that help and support is out there.

We, the BSWPA, are overwhelmed by the heartfelt generosity of these performers. Come out and share the day. Share the gift of helping others in need. Celebrate those in recovery. Celebrate the memory of those that we have lost. Celebrate the Blues musicians and our blues family who are joining together to make a difference.

Tickets will soon be made available on line.
